APSB Annual Stud Show 2009

The APSB Stud Show was certainly the grandest turnout of New Forest ponies over the 2008-09 show season.

22 New Forest ponies were present at the Bendigo Showgrounds on the weekend of the 17th and 18th January and thank goodness the weather was cooler than the extremes felt in the lead up week.
In this ongoing drought the grounds are still fearfully dry with a tiny tinge of green spread intermittently between patches of bare red earth but stables have been improved (although some still too small for the bigger ponies) along with more attention to shower facilities.
The free sausage sizzle on Friday night began the social side for New Foresters and continued on the Saturday night at the BBQ with New Foresters sharing a table and a very pleasant evening catching up with other members.

A variety of saddle classes began on the Saturday morning commencing with the Ridden Mountain & Moorlands and later Show Hunter Mountain & Moorlands and the Foal Futurities including the 3 ear old section for ponies that had missed out last year when the stud show was cancelled due to EI.

On Sunday the Led New Forest classes took place under the watchful eye of our judge Phillipe Majorkinos with a great role up of 22 New Forest ponies present on the day.
That's more than in our Feature breed year!
Phillipe added excitement and tension in the judging of the Supreme New Forest taking his time to choose between his 3 bay champions, Sandra & Jim Barry's stallion Bain Park Nebiolo, Neil & Janet McBain's young gelding Forestway Replica and the Mashiter family's mare.
The sweet faced mare Yarborough Patience of good pony type was well run out by Patsy Mashiter finally receiving the judge's approval and the pale blue sash.

Bain Park Nebiolo presented impressively on the Saturday to take out the New Forest 2yo foal futurity giving the Bain Park Stud their 5th Foal Futurity in a row!!
Yound Forestway geldings excelled in the Led M&M Show Hunter classes.
Forestway Garnet took the Championship and Forestway Replica the Reserve.

Penny Prosser's Aylestone Park youngstock also took a double in the Led New Forest 2&3yo filly class with 1st and 2nd placings going to AP Apple Blossom and AP Mulberry respectively.

New Forest competitors were in good spirits for their classes on Sunday morning sharing conversation and offering encouragement and congratulations to all winners.
It's a pleasure to show among such a group.
