This is a profile about our New Forest Pony, Forestway Atlanta (Bonnie). We purchased her from
Jan and Neil McBain in 1997 as a youngster. I got back into riding after a 20 year absence
because our youngest daughter wanted to ride and I wanted to ride with her, so we purchased
Bonnie, had her broken to saddle and we’ve had a ball with her ever since. Enviously watching
Fiona competing at Pony Club O.D.E.’s I decided to give it a go, and we found Bonnie to be a
very talented jumper and we placed at every event. At one event we were out on the cross
country having such a great ride that I let out a little “YIPPEEEE”, and Bonnie let out a
whinnie at the same time. She puts her absolute heart and soul into the cross country, and
thinks she is running like the wind and I’m usually riding on the buckle with a loose rein!
Fiona has used Bonnie for various Pony Club activities over the years and competed with her
at State Level Zone Games, but I wanted my pony back. We then had her harness trained, and
she loves it! We have done a handful of C.D.E.’s and have had a fantastic time. We all
especially love the marathon and her boldness from doing the cross country at the pony club
one day events has put her in good stead for the marathon obstacles. We have found the New
Forest a very versatile breed and Bonnie just seems to improve with age. She is a very
forgiving pony, happy to put up with new ideas that I might try, and then just giving me a
look when it doesn’t work. She is a very much loved member of our family and we hope to
Combine Drive for many years to come. We hope to venture over to Victoria next year to compete.
